The West End has been mine and my husband’s home since moving to Vancouver in 2019. And it was love at first sight. Beautiful. Uniquely charming. Quirky. The most wonderful of communities. Having found it, we can’t imagine ever living anywhere else.

Like the West End, my debut novel also holds a very precious place in my heart. It’s actually my fifth manuscript, originally written just for me, and just for fun after a particularly difficult knock on my journey to publication. And yes, the idea hit me while walking past our very own Fire Hall Six.

I come from a family of firefighters, and I read a lot of romance. At the time, I was loving a series of hockey romances, and after one too many rejections, I was searching for a way to fall in love with writing again. It was obvious. I needed to write a fire hall romance set right here in my village-in-a-city home. And the idea was born.

Our home is so often used as a stand-in for other places around the world. I love that this time, it gets to star as itself! And for anyone who’s local, you’ll spot lots of familiar streets and locations in Play with Fire, along with plenty of artistic licence because, well, this book was only meant to be for me. It’s funny how life works out sometimes.
